Headaches & migraines.

Most headaches have a pattern. Find the pattern, change the headaches.

"Treat headaches one at a time and they keep coming. Treat the pattern and the pattern shifts."

The approach

Headaches and migraines have some of the strongest research backing for acupuncture — the World Health Organisation specifically recognises acupuncture as a supportive practice in this area. The work is to identify what's driving the pattern: jaw and neck tension, hormonal rhythm, sleep, stress, posture, or — most often — a combination of several.

Most chronic headache patterns respond well when the underlying triggers are mapped and treated systematically, rather than session-by-session.

What sessions tend to cover

  • Tension headaches — across the day, end-of-day, persistent
  • Migraine patterns — frequency, intensity, recovery
  • Sinus and pressure-related head symptoms
  • Jaw-related head pain (TMJ, clenching, grinding)
  • Headaches originating from the neck
  • Headaches tied to cycle or hormonal change

What to expect

Headache work usually shows reduced frequency and intensity within the first few weeks. The structured 12-treatment protocol then works on the underlying pattern — often jaw, neck, sleep, and stress together.

It helps to keep a simple log of headaches in the lead-up to your first appointment — frequency, intensity, time of day, what was happening that week. Pattern recognition is half the work.

Who it suits

People who've been managing headaches with medication and want to address what's behind them. Migraine sufferers looking for a complementary approach alongside their GP or neurologist. Anyone who clenches, grinds, or carries tension in their head and neck.

Acupuncture supports the body's natural capacity to ease tension and recover. It does not replace medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment from your GP, neurologist, or other treating doctor. Any new, severe, or unusual headache must be investigated medically. Symptom areas are described in line with AHPRA guidance.

Ready to start?

A first appointment is 75 minutes.

Long enough to take a full history, map the pattern, and start treatment in the same session. We'll talk through the protocol together — no open-ended commitments.
